Really easy app

Got my first flat and needed the energy sorted, this was the first place i found that didnt make me ring someone. The app shows your bill and you can top up with a card in seconds. Super easy and the prices are decent for a student budget. Would sign up again, the whole thing was quick and cheap enough.

Better than the last one

Compared with my old supplier this is so much better, mostly because I can pay by direct debit and check my usage on my phone without waiting for a letter. Switched a couple of months ago and the transfer went through without any gap in supply. The app is clean and the tariff is cheaper than what I was on. Spot on for what I needed, and I'd happily stay on.

First time with an energy firm

First time I've ever had to sign up for energy so I had no idea what to expect. The sign up was quick on the site and the app walked me through the meter reading bit, which I was dreading. The first bill took a few days to show up in my account though, so I was checking it every morning. Otherwise pretty painless.

cheaper elsewhere right now

Compared with the cheapest deals on the comparison sites, this is a bit dearer at the moment, which was a shame when I was looking to save money. The account and bills are fine though, and the online set up was easy. I'd check the other options before signing up because you can definitely find something cheaper if price is your main concern.

Why I needed a new deal

My contract was up and I needed a new deal fast before the rate went to the standard variable. I compared three suppliers and this one came out with a lower unit rate and no exit fee. The sign up was quick and I had the confirmation email the same day. Very happy with how it turned out.

Bills are easy

Honestly one of the easiest energy accounts I've had. The app shows your usage each day, you can top up the meter with a card, and the bill lands in the inbox without any drama. Price is fine for a student flat. Switched in an evening and nothing has gone wrong since, so yeah, would pick them again.

green tariff at a fair price

Switched to their green tariff last spring because I wanted the electric coming from renewables without paying a silly premium for it. The rate per unit is close to the standard one and the monthly direct debit has been spot on every time. Only thing I'd flag is the welcome email went to spam for a fortnight so I nearly missed the account details.

Quick and simple

Signed up on my phone in about ten minutes, which was far quicker than I expected. Got my account details the same day and the first direct debit went out right on time.

a tidy little account

I took the green tariff they offer, mainly because I wanted my electricity to come from renewable sources, and I was pleased to see it priced sensibly alongside the standard options. The bills arrive on time and the statement is laid out clearly, which I appreciate. The paperless option was simple to set up through the account page. I have found the whole arrangement quite satisfactory and would be happy to remain with them.

needed a new supplier after the old firm went under

My old supplier went bust so I had to move to somebody new in a hurry, which is why I ended up here. The switch went through without a break in supply, but I waited nearly a week for a welcome letter with my account number and had to ring to ask. Once I got through the person was helpful enough. Prices are about where I expected and I've kept the account going.

Still with them after years

I've been with them for about six years now and it's stayed a reasonable choice. The prices move up and down with the market like everyone else, but the account has never been hard to manage. The app got a redesign last year and it's a bit fiddlier to find the meter reading page than it used to be. Otherwise the bills are clear and the direct debit sorts itself out. I'd stay with them again.

smart meter fitted and working

Had the smart meter put in last month and it was done on the day they said, which I wasn't expecting. The in home display works fine and the gas readings sync to the app. Only thing is the engineer left the display on the wrong side of the hall so I had to move it myself. Otherwise the bills match what the meter shows.

The usage alerts

The detail I liked most was the alert when my daily usage jumped above normal, which helped me find a faulty heater. I'd been paying more than I needed for weeks without realising it. The alert is sent by text and email and you can change the threshold in the app. Simple feature, really useful, and the bills have come down since.

Needed a supplier for my new place

I needed a supplier sorted for my new place and my mate said this one was simple. Signed up in the app on my phone over lunch and it was live a few days later. The account is easy to use and I can see my usage. Good for someone who doesn't want to deal with calls.

switch took longer than promised

I'm grateful for the energy I've been supplied with but the switch over took much longer than they said it would. The first thing that stood out was that I was told a week and it turned into nearly three, with several calls to chase it up. Once it was done the billing has been fine, though I'd have appreciated a little more warning about the delay.

Cheaper than the big names

Found this when comparing a few suppliers and it came out cheaper than the bigger names for the same usage. Switching was done through a comparison site and the transfer went smoothly. The account is easy to manage online and I haven't had any surprise charges. It has ticked every box I cared about.

Better than my last supplier

Compared with my last supplier this is a lot easier to deal with, mainly because the online account actually shows you what you're paying per unit. The old lot only sent paper bills and you had to ring to find anything out. Here the usage graphs are clear and I can see when the standing charge changes. Price is a touch higher than the cheapest deal around, but I'd rather pay a bit more for a clearer account.

Would switch again

Would switch to them again. I compared a few suppliers before picking this one and it came out with the best unit rate for my house. The transfer was smooth and I've had no issues since. Good value and easy to deal with.

No complaints so far

This is a good supplier and I'd say so to anyone asking. Set up a dual fuel tariff online, the meter readings were easy to submit, and the direct debit amount has been steady month to month. The customer support line picked up quickly when I rang about a tariff question. Happy with it.

Needed to move house

I needed to get the power sorted when I moved into my first flat and didn't want to deal with anything complicated. Booked it online, picked a start date, and the account was live the morning I got my keys. Quick, simple and no faff at all. The app is sensible too.

About Shell Broadband

Shell Broadband is the home broadband and phone arm of Shell Energy, the energy supplier that has supplied gas and electricity to households across the United Kingdom. The service provides fibre and standard broadband packages alongside landline calls, and it is bundled with energy supply for customers who take both from the same company. Customers manage their accounts online or through the app, and the service is aimed at households who want a single provider for their home energy and internet.

The broadband and energy offers are sold directly by the company, with no shop network, so setup and support are handled by phone and online. Shell Broadband is best understood as a secondary product within a wider energy business rather than a standalone internet provider.
