Needed someone to ring for me

Needed someone to ring for me because I was too nervous to do it myself after getting hurt on a night out. The person was dead nice and didn't make me feel silly. Sorted it all out in one call.

Used the claim form online

Used the online claim form for a whiplash claim from a car accident last year. The form asks for the right things in the right order, and it saves as you go, which helped because I was in and out of hospital appointments. Had a clear reference number within minutes of submitting.

Needed help after a workplace injury

Needed help after a workplace injury where my employer was dragging their feet, so I looked for a helpline that would take the case on. The advice was clear and the team explained what evidence I would need before the claim went in. Practical and easy to follow.

First time using a helpline like this

Never used a helpline like this before, and I was not sure what to expect. Got through quickly, the advice was clear and I knew my options by the end of the call. Would ring again if I needed it.

Exactly the help I needed

Exactly the help I needed for a claim after a fall at work, and the caseworker knew the rules inside out. They chased the employer's insurer on my behalf and kept me updated by text. Glad I went with them.

booked the initial call

Booked the initial call with a caseworker on a Tuesday and had someone ringing me back the same afternoon. Cheaper than I thought it would be to get the claim looked at, and they explained the fee structure before I committed to anything. Would use them again if I had to.

Better than going to a solicitor

Compared with going to a high street solicitor, this was far less intimidating and much quicker to get started. The helpline explained the scheme in plain English and gave me a realistic idea of what to expect. I felt I was in capable hands from the first call.

the caseworker kept me updated

The caseworker kept me updated by email at every stage, even when there was nothing new to report. I liked that they explained why a delay was happening rather than just saying it was in progress. Made a stressful process a lot easier to live with.

sound advice from the start

Sound advice from the start, which is more than I expected from a phone call. The adviser went through the eligibility rules without rushing me, and I appreciated the honesty about how long things can take. A proper service, and I would be happy to use it again.

better than the solicitor I rang first

Compared to the solicitor I rang first, who wanted a sizeable deposit before even looking at the file, this was a much easier start. The helpline took my details on the phone and sent the forms straight over. Nothing to pay up front, which made a difference.

Got hurt and needed help fast

Got hurt in a fight and needed help fast because I was scared the time limit was running out. Rang them on my lunch and got sorted the same day. The woman on the phone was patient with me and explained what I needed to do next.

Needed help after the assault

I needed help after an assault on my son last spring and did not know where to turn, so I rang this helpline with some trepidation. The lady I spoke to was patient and kind, and she took the time to explain how the compensation scheme works. I am very grateful to her and to the team.

booked a call for my brother

Booked a call for my brother after he was attacked outside his house, and I rang on his behalf since he was still poorly. Cost nothing to get the initial advice, which kept things simple for us. Everything was explained clearly and we knew where we stood.

The callback was fast

Honestly the callback was fast, like within the hour, which I did not expect. The bloke I spoke to talked me through the forms without making it boring. Felt sorted after one call.

Quicker than the other site

Way quicker than the other site I looked at, I was on the phone in about two minutes. Got a callback straight away and they knew what they were talking about. Good stuff.

very patient with my questions

The adviser who took my call was very patient with my questions, which I appreciated as I am not the most confident with these matters. I was told fairly early on what would happen next and what I might expect from the process. They explained each step clearly and did not rush me at all. I felt looked after throughout and would certainly be happy to speak to them again.

About Criminal Injuries Helpline

Criminal Injuries Helpline is a UK service that helps people who have been hurt as a result of a violent crime apply for compensation under the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme. The service explains how the scheme works, what evidence is needed and how claims are assessed, and it supports people through each stage of the application process. It is aimed at victims of assault and other violent offences, along with their families, who may be unsure whether they are eligible to claim.

The helpline operates online and by telephone, allowing people to make initial enquiries and begin a claim without visiting an office in person. Its website sets out the types of injury and circumstance that can qualify, giving readers a clear starting point before they decide whether to pursue compensation.
