Construction Helpline

Compared with ringing round six different firms for a new kitchen, this was a lot less effort. I put in the details once and got responses from people in my area without chasing anyone. The quotes did vary quite a lot, so I had to read through them carefully before picking.

Booked a decorator for the hallway and stairs through the app on the bus. Took two minutes to pick a date and the confirmation came straight away. He turned up when he said he would and the paintwork is clean with no drips on the skirting. Would use again.

We had water coming through the kitchen ceiling from the flat above and needed someone out quickly to find the cause. I had a look at a couple of other places first, but the response times were better here. The plumber they sent found the joint that had gone and fixed it in an afternoon. The price was a bit higher than the one I'd seen elsewhere, though he was clear about the cost before starting.

We had a leak after the storm and the ceiling was starting to bulge, so I needed someone out that week. Found a roofer on here who could come the next morning. He patched it properly and the ceiling has stayed dry since.

The first thing I noticed was how long it took for anyone to call me back after I posted the job. It was nearly three days before a builder rang, and by then I'd already got someone through a neighbour. The builder they sent was fine once he arrived, but the wait put me off.

Had a loft hatch that wouldn't stay shut and the joiner they sent round was there within two days of posting. Quoted a fair price for the job and didn't try to upsell me on anything. Took about an hour in total and the hatch works now. Would use them again for small jobs.

Compared to the directory I used last time this was miles quicker to sort out. Posted a job for a fence panel on the train and got two replies by the evening. One of the tradesmen didn't turn up on the day I'd agreed and I had to chase him, which was annoying. Job got done in the end though.

Needed an electrician to swap out a fuse board in our flat and used the site to find one. Quotes came back within a day, and the one I went with was about a fair bit cheaper than the two I got from local firms. The job was done on the Thursday as booked, though he turned up forty minutes late and nobody had texted me about it.

Have been using the site for garden jobs and small repairs for about six years now. Sign up is still straightforward and the tradespeople they send out have always turned up on time. Booking the gutter clearance again next month without a second thought.

Brilliant for finding a plumber when the boiler packs up at short notice, and I've used them four or five times now. Bookings are simple, the reminders arrive when they should, and the people they send have always been polite and tidy. Will keep going back.
