The cooking classes online

I was rather taken aback by how many live cooking sessions they run each month, and I did not expect to find so many on a Tuesday evening. I joined the online class on a bean and lentil curry, and the presenter was patient with those of us who had never cooked without butter before. The replay stays up for a week, which suited me since I am not always quick off the mark with the video link.

The flexible skip option

The flexible skip option was what made me pick this over the others I looked at, since I can pause a week when we're away. It worked well and I skipped a week without any fuss. The recipe cards could be a bit cleaner to read, but that's a small thing.

Sensible and well organised

I can say without hesitation that this is a sensible and well organised service. The recipes are straightforward, the ingredients are sourced with care and the dietary notes have been accurate for my needs. It is a good deal for what it offers.

The starter pack

Bought the starter pack to see if I'd stick with it and the box took nine days to turn up, which was a bit frustrating when I'd planned to start on the Monday. The recipes themselves are fine and a few of them were nice, but a couple felt bland and needed more seasoning than the card said. Not sure I'd order again without a clearer delivery window.

Better than the others i tried

I've tried most of the plant based meal services going and this one beats the rest for actual recipe quality. Others have felt like they were written by people who've never cooked a dinner in their life. These are tested properly and the flavours hold up. Easy choice for me now.

The recipe app

Mainly got it for the recipe app and it's so much better than scrolling through random blogs for ideas. Filter by time and it actually shows what you can make tonight. Loads of nice stuff in there and it's easy to save favourites. Really pleased, definitely sticking with it for now and telling my flatmates to get it too.

Cheaper than the meal kits

Compared with the big meal kit firms I'd used before, this works out a fair bit cheaper per portion, and the recipes are about as good. The only niggle is that the ingredients for a couple of the dishes come in slightly bigger packs than you need, so there's some waste. The app took a bit of getting used to but it's fine now. For the money it's a sound choice and I've kept it going for a few months.

The monthly meal plan subscription

I've had the monthly meal plan subscription for nearly three years now and renewed it every single time. The recipes have stayed fresh, the swaps they suggest when I'm short of something are useful, and the emails reminding me when to reorder have saved me more than once. Customer support has always answered within a day when I've had a question.

Got me cooking again

Needed something to get me out of the takeaway rut after moving into my own place. Ordered the first box and the recipes are easy enough that I'm not panicking at 7pm. Loved it, will reorder.

Tried a few before this

Needed a plant based plan after my doctor flagged my iron levels and I wanted something structured. I compared it with two other services and the price here was higher, though the recipes looked more balanced. Left it at one month for now.

Compared it with the big names

Compared it against the big name meal kits and a couple of smaller vegan boxes before deciding, and this came out ahead on variety. The others leaned heavily on the same few vegetables every week. The recipes here feel more adventurous without being fussy, and the substitutes they suggest are handy. Glad I went with it.

needed quick weeknight dinners

Needed something quick for weeknight dinners as I'm running my kids around most evenings and was sick of takeaways. The 20 minute recipes are actually around 20 minutes, mostly. Cancelling took a few clicks which was fine but I had to dig for the button. Would still use it.

the cookbook bundle

I purchased the cookbook bundle as a gift for my daughter, who has recently gone vegan, and she has been using it every evening since. The photographs are clear and the layout is easy to follow even for someone who is not a confident cook. The binding is a touch stiff on the first few pages but it loosens up with use.

Finally got a proper vegan meal plan

We had been trying to cut out dairy and eggs for my husband's cholesterol and I'd been cooking from scratch for weeks with no real plan. The meal plans on here are well laid out, the shopping lists are sensible and the recipes don't ask for ingredients you need a trip to a specialist shop for. Only niggle is the portions are written for two so I had to scale a few of them up.

Very happy with the plans

I was rather sceptical at first, having never followed a plant based diet before, but the weekly plans have been well laid out and easy to follow. The shopping lists are sensible and the recipes have been reliable, even for my husband who is not keen on tofu. The meals have made a real difference to how we eat and feel, and I am pleased we signed up.

worth the money for a beginner

Brilliant for someone who had no idea where to start with plant based eating. I signed up on a Sunday evening, the welcome guide walked me through the first week and by Tuesday I was actually cooking the recipes rather than just saving them. The sign up took about two minutes and I didn't have to chase anyone for anything.

Good value for the number of meals

Brilliant value for the number of meals you get, and I've never felt I was paying for padding. The portions are sensible and the recipes stretch to a second lunch. Would order again.

The menu planner

The menu planner is the feature that caught my attention, as it lets me plan a whole fortnight at a glance and print the list. I was able to set it up in an afternoon and it has kept our household organised since. The only thing I would mention is that the printed version has small type, though this is a minor matter.

Better than the free apps

Compared with the free meal planning apps I'd tried, this is much more structured and the recipes actually turn out. The free ones kept sending me random dishes with half the ingredients missing. The only thing I'd flag is it costs a bit more each month than I expected.

The printed recipe cards

I was rather pleased to find the recipe cards come in a printed format as well as on screen, which suits me far better than squinting at a tablet in the kitchen. The instructions are clear and the timings have been accurate in my experience. My one reservation is that the cards arrived a day later than I had been told, though the customer service team were courteous about it.
