A very good place for collectors

Catawiki is a dependable place to find something unusual, and I have bought from them several times now. The bidding was straightforward and the sellers I dealt with were courteous. My only reservation is that the buyer's premium makes the final figure a little higher than I'd like, although the items are generally sound.

Bought a little brass compass

Bought a small brass compass off a seller in Scotland. Arrived a day later than the tracking said but it's lovely and the wooden box is nice. Only niggle was the delivery timing.

Bidding closed late and the postage took ages

Won a small Art Deco lamp base at the end of a long auction and the closing time caught me out, it was gone 11pm when it finished. Seller was fine once I messaged them but it took about three days to reply. Postage was slow too, nearly two weeks to arrive. Good find though, and the fees are clear enough once you see them.

better than the usual sites for watches

Found this when a regular watch site wanted way too much for the same model, and this beat it on price after the fees. Checked the lot twice on my phone while on the bus. Dispatch was quick and the box arrived in one piece, so no complaints.

Found a clock my late husband wanted

I needed to track down a particular mantel clock that my late husband had always admired in a shop window years ago, and Catawiki seemed the most sensible place to look. The bidding was clear and the seller answered my questions promptly. The clock arrived well packed and in exactly the condition described, which I was rather pleased about.

Compared a few places before buying

Looked at a couple of other auction sites before settling on this one for a set of mid-century chairs. The choice of sellers was wider and the photos were better. Delivery took longer than I'd like but the chairs arrived sound.

way better than ebay for vintage stuff

Compared it to ebay first and honestly the bidding here feels way more like a proper auction, not just buy it now at whatever price. Got a retro lamp for a flat I'm doing up and it turned up looking better than the photos. Would totally use it again for vintage bits.

Generally good, one slow seller

I've been a customer here for a long time and the bidding has always been fair in my experience. This time I bought a set of vintage glass vases which were lovely and matched the listing. The only trouble was that the seller took nearly a week to send them on, which was a bit of a wait. Would still shop here again.

Disappointed with a clock

I've been buying here for a good few years, so I was surprised by this one. I bid on a longcase clock listed as fully working, and it arrived needing a fair bit of repair. The seller was slow to reply when I asked about it, and returning it was a fiddly business.

Solid auction for coins

I've been collecting Georgian silver for years and this is where I now look first. The lot photos were detailed enough to check hallmarks properly. Bid went through smoothly and the coin came in the grading sleeve, just as described.

About Catawiki

Catawiki is an online marketplace for collectors and enthusiasts, where items are sold through timed auctions organised into themed categories such as art, coins, watches, jewellery, wine, design and vintage objects. Sellers are professional dealers and specialist houses as well as private individuals, and each lot is presented with a description and photographs so that buyers can judge its condition and provenance before bidding. The platform is built around expert review, with specialists checking items before they are listed to help maintain confidence in what is offered.

Buyers place bids in real time or set maximum bids and the highest bid at the close of each auction wins the lot, which gives the site a format closer to a traditional saleroom than to a fixed-price shop. Catawiki is aimed at people who enjoy hunting for unusual pieces, and it operates online across several European countries, with payment handled through the site and shipping arranged between buyer and seller.
