Worth the subscription if you play daily

Worth the subscription if you play daily, I've been a paying member for a while now and the perks add up. The rewards for completing campaigns are generous and the clan support is good. The renewal process took a fiddly couple of attempts to confirm the payment, which annoyed me.

The sign up was quick

The sign up was quick, which I didn't expect after the other two I'd looked at, both of which wanted my details twice and a phone number. I tried three naval games before settling on this one, mostly because the free version lets you get a proper feel for it. The only niggle is that the premium account costs a bit more than I'd like, but it's not enough to put me off.

first game i've actually stuck with

This is the first game I've actually stuck with, I downloaded it on my phone and it was up and running in minutes. The starter ship was enough to get me hooked and the tutorial made sense. Already thinking about which ship to aim for next.

wanted a proper naval game again

Wanted a proper naval game again after years away from the genre, and I knew what I was looking for, having played the older PC titles. The historical lineups are exactly what I hoped for and the balance between ships feels fair. Support took a few days to reply when my account login got stuck, but once it was sorted everything has run smoothly since.

Pick this over the rest

Pick this over the rest if you like naval history and don't mind a slow start. I tried two other titles before it and this is the only one that felt like a proper game of strategy. The matches are fair enough and the balance has improved since my first year.

The historical ship lineups

The historical ship lineups are what keep me coming back after all these years. I have been playing since the early days and the updates still add new nations and ships. Support answered a payment query in a couple of days last spring.

the sound effects are mad

The sound effects are mad, honestly, the cannon fire makes my speakers shake. I got it on my phone and the battles run smooth even when there's loads going off. Would've liked a bit more in the way of tutorials for new players, but I worked it out with some mates in the clan chat.

Got the premium account

got the premium account for a month to see if it was worth it, and yeah it kinda is. Gets you more credits and the xp boost is decent. Bit annoying that the boost only kicks in after the first battle though, so the first one felt like a waste.

quicker than the other one I tried

Quicker to get into than the other one I tried, I was in a match before I'd finished my tea. Sign up took under a minute on my phone. Battles are short enough to fit in on the commute.

Still going after all these years

Still going after all these years, my husband and I played it together when we first got our tablets. The updates have kept it fresh and the ships we used to love are still there. Fine service for an old player like me.

The detail in the historical ships

The detail in the historical ships is what struck me first, the way the lines of each vessel have been drawn so carefully. I have a long-standing interest in naval history and was pleased to find a game that takes the period seriously. The commentary and crew names add a touching bit of realism, and the staff replied politely when I asked about a historical question.

better matchmaking than the rival

Matchmaking is better here than the rival I was using before, which was the main reason I switched after months of frustrating games. I weighed up the cost against the free-to-play option and it's a bit pricier if you want the good ships quickly. The graphics and sound are excellent, though one update broke my settings for a few days.

A bit of company in the evenings

I needed something to keep my mind busy in the evenings since my husband passed, and a friend suggested this game. I've been playing with it for a good few years now and the community has been kind to me. The one niggle is that the help section took a while to find what I was after when I wanted to change my account details.

Better than the other free to play lot

Better than the other free to play naval games I tried, this one doesn't push you into paying every five minutes. The ships feel properly weighty and the battles last long enough to matter. Took me a week to get used to it, but I'm hooked now.

Still the best naval game going

It's still the best naval game going, and I've been on it since the early days. The tech tree has been reworked a couple of times and I'm glad they listened to feedback. Customer service sorted out a missing reward for me in a single email.

the premium ship bundle for my grandson

Bought the premium ship bundle for my grandson's birthday, having been told it would keep him occupied through the school holidays. I was a little unsure at first whether the price was justified, but he has been on it every evening since and I have to admit it has been money well spent. The ships are beautifully drawn and he talks about them at length over Sunday lunch, which I find rather charming.

Needed something to play with my lad

We needed something we could both play together after my son moved back home and the telly was getting the better of us. I looked at a few games before settling on this one, and the matchmaking was the deciding factor for me. The first couple of weeks were fine, but the premium ship I wanted cost more than I expected once I added up the currency needed, and I felt a bit short changed.

the free version is worth a go

The free version is worth a go before you spend a penny, I'd say that's the real verdict. I compared it with two other naval titles and this one has the cleanest interface by a distance. The tutorial was short and got me into a proper match on the first evening.

Not much cheaper than a console game

Compared with a console game of similar price, I thought this would work out cheaper over the year, but it hasn't quite. You can play for nothing, mind, and the free ships are fine for a bit. The paid bits add up if you want to keep up with the top tier.

needed something to play on the train

Needed something to play on the train to uni that didn't need a proper console or hours of commitment. I compared a few of the free mobile naval games before picking this one, and the battles are short enough to fit between stops. Signing up took about two minutes and the app has been reliable on my old phone, though the store page could be clearer about what costs money.
