needed a way to fit practice around shifts

I needed something I could do around shifts at the hospital, and typing this quickly between patients. The lessons are short enough to fit into a tea break. One lesson didn't load on my phone the first time and I had to refresh, which was a small irritation. Otherwise it has been a really good way to keep going with my practice.

cheaper than a teacher

Compared it with a face to face lesson and this is miles cheaper, no travel and no waiting for a slot. The videos are short so I can do ten minutes before bed. It won't correct your posture like a real teacher would but for a beginner it's grand.

the chord chart is handy

The chord chart that sits alongside each lesson is the bit I use most, I print it off and keep it on the music stand. Sometimes the video lags a bit on my older laptop so I have to pause and wait, which is a small annoyance. Otherwise I've stuck with it since 2019 and it's kept me going.

Wanted to get back into playing

I wanted to get back into playing after about twenty years off, and I needed something structured that wouldn't patronise me. The course starts at a sensible level and moves quickly through fingerpicking patterns. The teaching is clear and the theory explanations are not too heavy. I'd happily go on to the advanced modules.

The backing tracks are the best bit

The backing tracks are the best bit, honestly, you can slow them right down and loop a tricky bit until it clicks. Only thing is the site is a bit slow on my phone when the videos load, so I usually switch to the laptop. Still decent for the money.

The play along videos

The play along videos are what sold me, you can hear the full band and follow the chord chart at the same time. I'd tried a couple of other sites first and most of them just showed you a static diagram. The recordings sound clear through headphones and the lessons are split into bite sized sections. Really useful for practising on the sofa.

Better than my old teacher

Compared to the weekly lessons I used to pay for at the local shop this is far better value, and I can do it on my lunch break at work. I was typing this quickly between meetings so forgive the typos. The play along tracks are the main thing, you can slow a bit down and loop it till your fingers stop tangling. Would go back to it in a heartbeat.

booked the trial lesson

Booked the trial lesson between meetings on my phone and it took about a minute. Got a reminder email the day before which was handy. Already thinking about signing up properly.

Bit pricey for what it is

Bit pricey for what it is, the lessons are fine but I got bored of the repetitive drills after a few weeks. Would like more songs and fewer exercises, and I wish there was a free trial before paying.

better than the old music shop lessons

Compared to the lessons I used to pay for at the local music shop, this is much better value and I can fit it around the grandchildren. I've been learning on and off for years now and the lessons are well laid out. Happy to keep going.

signed up on the phone

Signed up for the monthly plan on my phone during my lunch break and it took about two minutes, no faff. The lessons load fine on the app even on the train. Already on week three of the beginner course and loving the backing tracks.

Does the job but slow

I've been a member for about four years now and the course itself is sound enough for learning the basics. My main gripe is the support, when I emailed about a lesson that wouldn't load it took the best part of a week to get a reply, and by then I'd already sorted it out myself. Fine for the money but I'd like a quicker response.

why I took it up

I took up the guitar after my late husband's old instrument came into my possession, and I felt I should finally learn to play it properly. The lessons are patient and well explained, and I appreciate that the instructors speak plainly without any unnecessary jargon. I was able to join with a simple account and begin straight away without any difficulty. The progress notes are a pleasant touch. I am very content with the course so far.

Solid if you know your basics

Solid course if you already know your basics, which I did from years of messing about with a Strat. The theory section is pitched well and I picked up some useful improvisation ideas. Would have liked a bit more depth on the jazz voicings, but that's a small gripe and I'm still enjoying it.

Needed something for my brother's birthday

I needed a way to learn acoustic guitar properly because my brother keeps asking me to play at family things and I can only do three chords. Booking was simple and the first lesson started straight away. The only thing is the progress tracker took a while to sync the first time I logged in, so I had to wait a bit before I could see my chart. Otherwise it's been a good start for a complete beginner.

The monthly plan

I went for the monthly plan after looking at a couple of local guitar teachers and a rival app. The sign up was quick but the first renewal email landed a day late and I had to check my bank to see if I'd been charged. Nothing else to grumble about, the lessons are clear and I like that I can pick them up whenever.

Way better than youtube

Way better than just watching youtube tutorials for free, because it actually goes in order and tells you when you're ready to move on. The app works fine on my phone on the bus. Got through the first module in about a week, didn't think I'd stick with it.

The bass course

Bought the bass course after a year on the regular guitar lessons. The course runs through slap technique and walking lines in a sensible order. Videos are sharp and the tabs match what's played.

not sure it's worth the money

Not sure it is worth the money if you only want to dabble, the monthly fee adds up quickly. The lessons are decent but I expected more interactive feedback for the price, and there was no way to get a tutor to listen to a recording of my playing. Signing up was easy and the course content is well organised. For a serious learner it might be fine, but I'd think twice before paying for a year up front.
