Cogs Restaurant

Got the sunday roast with a mate, beef was proper good. Gravy was a bit thin but whatever, the yorkshire puddings were massive. Would go back, just wish they had more seats outside.

Needed a table for six at short notice after a work thing fell through and had to find somewhere open. Booked through the site on my phone in the car park, took about a minute and got a confirmation straight away. Table was ready when we walked in, the waiter had clearly been told about the birthday, and the bread came out quick so nobody was grumpy. Food was solid, nothing mind blowing but everyone was happy.

The puddings have been the same for as long as I've been coming, and that's the point. The sticky toffee is still warm in the middle and they still bring custard without asking. Staff remember us now which is nice.

Cogs is the one I'd pick for a working lunch. I tried two other places nearby first and they were either slow or the food was cold by the time it reached the table. Here the lunch menu comes out fast and it's hot.

Compared it with the two other places near us that do delivery and this one came out ahead. The order was quicker to put in than the other apps and the food arrived hot. Portions were generous for the money.

We used to go to the carvery at the Crown, and I have to say the food here is a step up from that. The fish was cooked properly and the portions are generous without being silly. The downside is that the prices have crept up and it's not a cheap night out any more. The waiter was attentive, though a little slow to clear plates between courses.

I've eaten a lot of roasts across the north and the Yorkshire puddings here are as good as any I've had. Gravy's thick without being gloopy and the veg were properly cooked, not mush. The one thing I'd flag is the booking system only lets you pick a time slot and not the table, so we ended up by the kitchen door. Prices have crept up a bit since last year too.

Went for the two course lunch deal on a weekday. Good value for what you get, soup or salad to start and a main that's filling. Nothing to moan about.

Table was ready when we arrived and the staff were lovely about the birthday. The only small thing was the wait for the bill, which felt a bit long on a busy Saturday.

Lunch was good, I will say that for the food. The steak was cooked the way I asked, which is not always the case. Service was a little slow when we first sat down, but once the waiter had taken our order things moved along nicely. Pleasant enough visit, though the bill came to more than I expected.
